Young Adults

The Secular Oratory is a community of Catholic young adults in the tradition of our founder, St. Philip Neri

We invite you to join us each Tuesday evening at 7:30 at the Philadelphia Oratory, St. Francis Xavier Parish.

Our usual Tuesday meeting revolves around discussing the readings for the coming Sunday. After, we socialize and usually discuss contemporary concerns and how to live a genuinely Catholic life. We also host regular talks given by our members and invited guests and other events. (Please see the calendar below for more information.)

We always conclude the evening with time for fellowship, building relationships with one another based on our common bond of friendship with Jesus Christ.

So, what is a ‘Secular Oratory’?

A community of laypeople who meet to pray and support each other in the spiritual life at an Oratory. From the very earliest days of the Oratory in Renaissance Rome, St. Philip Neri believed that fraternity was crucial to growing in holy cheerfulness. In the words of St. Philip Neri: “Give me ten men really detached from the world and I have the heart to believe I could convert the world with them.”
